The original barn is a century old structure situated on a historic sight. Once a 500 acre estate owned by Coca-Cola executive Samuel Candler Dobbs, it functioned as a horse stable for the estate. The structure echoes the history and traditions of old Lakemont, combining an extensive use of large river stone and timbers from the surrounding area. The exterior has its own distinct personality boasting a dramatic cat-ski roof line reminiscent of a colonial saltbox style. After numerous owners and renovations, the latest transformations reveal a more open and sociable floor plan infused with classic yet updated features.The unveiling begins with a custom barn door entry and striking antler handles that suggest what is to follow. Once inside, guests are greeted by a grand stone-floored foyer and dining room that leads into the great room. Scotty Mitchell designed the house with warmth and comfort giving it a relaxed elegance. Tasteful features include the reclaimed heart pine floors, touches of leather and iron, and soft wool carpets that run throughout the house. Each room contains a subtle reminder of the barn’s past whether a pair of leather riding boots, a hunting trophy, an antique horse feeder, a bit, a bridle or a riding habit. The once separated living areas are now reshaped into one large yet intimate space in a soft palette that showcases the gallery of original art, bronzes, antiques, and custom furniture. There is a large stone fireplace and multiple seating areas that can accommodate large gatherings while still feeling cozy for smaller groups. The dormer windows in the great room create more openness while offering a visual surprise at dusk. The expansive commercial kitchen gleams with European pottery, copper, and stainless. It is fully appointed for guests to prepare their own gourmet meals or to bring in a private chef or Caterer. Guests can also enjoy a casual meal at the custom-built bar table in the kitchen. The media room, adjacent to the front foyer, has the most comfy sectional to snuggle into and watch movies or the big game on the large screen. The home sleeps seventeen comfortably in the seven private bedrooms and eight and a half baths. The bedrooms are designed with serene comfort in mind. Each King bedroom features The Barn’s own “Barn Bliss”, Talalay organic mattress complete with luxurious European linens, and all of which have a private bath with marble vanities and slate tile floors. Additionally, there is a bunk room with custom-built bunk beds and a separate “hayloft” with bean bags and TV for kids to escape with their games and movies. Outside, relax in the cool mountain air and gentle breezes under manicured hardwoods on two acres of native plantings across from one of Georgia’s most beautiful mountain lakes. Beautiful 4 bedroom, 4 full baths, 2 half bath lake house on pristine Lake Rabun. This house has everything you need to have the perfect week or weekend get-away with the family. Designed for family comfort, all the rooms have large beds with their own individual bathrooms. There are 2 master suites. One is on the main level in case someone doesn't want to go up or down the stairs, this would be perfect for older couples. The other is downstairs, the middle floor, and is attached to the media room with an 80 inch TV. The final 2 bedrooms are also very nice for guests. One has a gorgeous view of the lake and the other stays nice and dark in case someone likes to sleep in. There are several places in the home set up to play games or read a book. The house is settled on a slope with 100 steps through woods down to boathouse, and close to dirt road behind it. Property includes buffer of over 8 steep forested acres on Mt. Macy across dirt road . The two story boathouse sits on the lake, complete with a partly covered upper deck plus adjoining dock with slide and swimming cove. Great for entertaining or enjoying cocktails while watching the sunset over the Georgia mountains. Boathouse comes with a canoe and 2 kayaks, but power boats and boathouse boat hoists are EXCLUDED. Power boats and ski do's may be rented separately from independent boat rental companies, and attached to dock by two sets of (outside) boatwhips on either side of the boathouse during the rental. The boathouse offers a perfect setting for a hot summer's day swim, relaxing on floats, or fishing off of the dock. The boathouse also offers a slide, fun for young children. There is a tiny beach area in the foliage behind the dock on which the slide is located, where supervised young children can play in shallow water. Otherwise the water is 37 feet deep off the boathouse. . Birdwatcher's paradise: wide variety of birds come to the feeders, and if you are quiet about an hour before midnight, the fearless FLYING SQUIRRELS will quietly swoop in to the feeders on the broad treetops deck, often in groups. Other wildlife sighted on the property include an adult Black Bear doing a pirouette on our deck railing to reach the bird feeder, black racers, bullfrogs, water snakes, crows, numerous birds, chipmunks, squirrels, deer , bees and a wide variety of fish , some quite large. Once you arrive, drop your bags, open the french doors and walk onto the spacious screened-in porches surrounded by trees and mountain laurel. You can hear the waterfall flowing at the end of the cove… breathe-in fresh mountain air and let your vacation begin! Overall, we think this home sleeps 6 adults comfortably with 3 double beds in private rooms. There is also a bunk room and 2 sleeping lofts. PLEASE NOTE: the lofts are not ideal for younger children because of the height and vertical ladders. The upper level has a kitchen, dining/living area, screened porch, 2 bedrooms, 2 bathrooms, bunk room for 4 and 2 separate sleeping lofts. The lower level has a bedroom, bathroom, large comfortable living area with television, Wii, games/books, bunk beds and an adjacent laundry room. French doors lead to a screened porch with a ping pong table and corn hole boards. Dozens of steps through the trees will take you down to the 2-level boathouse, which is stocked with floats and canoes. There is very little boat traffic in this cove — an ideal situation for swimmers. Hall’s Marina is just across the lake and visible from the boathouse. There is parking for 3 cars. PLEASE NOTE: the driveway is very steep. Drivers will probably want to put their vehicle in a low gear. This is not an ideal driveway for large vans or trailers. Cook (or, simply eat) to your heart’s content with all the pots, pans, plates and utensils one could need; and for the more adventurous, make use of our ice-cream machine, slow-cooker, popcorn machine or blender. The kitchen features a gas-burning oven and stove, microwave, toaster oven, coffee machine, Keurig, dishwasher and garbage disposal. If by chance you aren’t taking your meals on the six-seat dining table on our screened-in porch (which features our second charcoal grill), our indoor dining table seats eight (five chairs and one bench) for casual meals. We also have a restaurant-style high chair available for your use, if needed. The family room is cozy and inviting with a new couch (which folds out to a full-sized bed) and comfy upholstered swivel-rocker chairs, all of which are working hard to divide their time between the entertainment center (stocked with a 43-inch TV, books, movies and board games) and the real star of the show, a floor-to-vaulted-ceiling stone fireplace. The two guest bedrooms are also located downstairs. One features a pillow-top queen bed and the other – in true Lake Rabun fashion – bunk beds with easy and fun access to the top bunk via the built in steps/drawers. Both bedrooms have plenty of closet space and storage, and the comfy beds are nicely appointed with new, crisp linens and quilts. These bedrooms share the immaculate main-floor bathroom, which features a roomy vanity/sink, large (stocked) linen closet and shower/tub. If a quick load of laundry is on your agenda, a washer/dryer combo is conveniently located on the main floor near the bathroom. The master suite, with an attached bath and king-sized bed, is located on the second floor, offering quiet seclusion from the rest of the home. If you’re tempted to watch television, the cleanly appointed master bedroom features one of the two TVs in Little Lakemont. Just outside the master is a sunny reading loft, where an overstuffed leather chair and ottoman invite you to settle in and enjoy a good book (borrow one of ours or bring your own) - or take a nap! - with views of Lake Rabun and the boathouse just below. Also on the top floor is a small, gabled bedroom with a single bed, perfect for a child (or an adult who would prefer the privacy of his/her own room versus the pull-out sofa in the living room!). There’s plenty of room in this bedroom for a pack-and-play (not provided) for the littlest ones. There will be no need to leave Little Lakemont once you arrive, but there’s plenty of exploring at your fingertips, should you feel compelled to wander. Enjoy Angel Falls (you can walk from our driveway to the trail head), Minnehaha Falls (a short drive to the trail head), Tallulah Gorge and Black Rock Mountain State Parks, all offering hiking trails and pristine views. Hall’s Marina, Lake Rabun Inn and Restaurant and Louie’s on the Lake are a short drive away; historic Lakemont beckons with its quaint shopping area, art and café; and plenty of creature comforts are available in the nearest city – Clayton, Georgia – as well as antique shops and family-owned restaurants. Off the kitchen/dining room is a half-covered porch in a lush, wooded and private setting... ideal for sitting and enjoying a cup of coffee in the morning. The main floor has a bedroom and shared full bath. Upstairs has a sleeping loft and the master bedroom with its own full bath. A second larger covered deck sits below the house with a grill and plenty of room for lounging in a perfect spot for outdoor dining and entertaining. Please note there are about 15 uneven steps from the driveway to the front door, and there are rustic railroad tie steps down to the downstairs deck. “Brigala” is a Bavarian-style family vacation in Rabun County, Georgia. It has been renovated recently and is available for vacation and family reunion rentals, weddings, church groups, corporate retreats, and short- or longer-term rental. With 5 bedrooms and 4 baths, Brigala can sleep 14 comfortably but can handle a maximum of 16 people. There are limitless opportunities for outdoor adventure in Rabun County including hiking, fishing, bird-watching, whitewater paddling, or just simply enjoying the peace and quiet of the woods. Main floor has nice conversation pit around stone fireplace. 2 guest rooms on the mail - one with a double bed, one with twin beds - each has a full bath en suite. Nicely stocked kitchen and long table in eating area. Porch overlooking the property is off the dining area - plenty of rocking chairs to enjoy the outdoor space. Upstairs has a huge master with two queen beds on either side of a massive fireplace. Master bath and balcony seating as well. Lower level has another family room in front of a large fireplace, with a game room on the other side (foosball, card table, etc.). Two bedrooms as well - one has 4 twin beds and the other has a double and two twins. A large hall bath accommodates both bedrooms. Laundry/utility room also on this level. DVD players/TV screens on lower and upper levels. Fireplaces work well. At this time, there is no Wifi. We are hoping Rural Broadband will come to Rabun County, which will provide both reliable and affordable options for us. Cell coverage is good, with Verizon being the best. If you wish to rent a pontoon boat (kayaks, paddle boards, canoes, etc.) we recommend Bear Gap Outfitters.com, which is located just minutes from the house. They will deliver your boat and provide a brief orientation on boat safety and navigating the lake. There is an extra large deck atop the boathouse with partial shaded coverage and a diving platform. Additionally, the house features a screened-in porch on the lake level, which spans the length of the sea wall, as well as a screened-in sleeping porch on the second level. Besides the many features of the home itself, the location is a huge plus. Being situated in the "Narrows" of Lake Rabun, you will enjoy all the access of the entire lake by boat, kayak, canoe, and paddle board, while still being able to retreat to the no-wake zone of the "Narrows" , escaping the noise and activity of the big basin areas of the lake. Located just 12 miles from Clayton, GA,, and 110 miles north of Atlanta, you will feel a million miles away from stress. This is a lovely 4 bedroom home with a lower level bunk room on Lake Rabun. It has been the family get away home since building was completed in 2004. With kids in high school and college now it is not used as much as I would like so I have decided to share it with others. The home is located at the quiet end of the lake and has a 1/2 acre field between the house and the water which is great for the young ones to run around and play. There is a dirt road between the house and the lake. There is great hiking to multiple waterfalls within a mile of the home. There are great dining choices as well. The rental includes the use of kayaks. The home has large wrap around decks and grills. There is a boat house with covered seating and an open air sun platform on the lake. The house has a king in the master, 2 bedrooms with 2 full sized beds in each, a fourth bedroom with a king bed, and a bunk room having bunk beds and an additional full sized bed. Access to the house is one and a half miles up a gently curving two lane paved road off Highway 441. Tallulah Gorge State Park is accessible on the other side of the lake, and has many walking and biking trails. Our favorite takes you on a shaded walk beside the Tallulah River. Tallulah Gorge is just across the street. We provide two State Park passes for your use during a stay at our house. We are very centrally located, with the town of Clayton 12 miles away, and the town of Clarkesville 11 miles away. Helen is about a 30 minute drive, and Highlands, NC is about a 45 minute drive. There are excellent restaurants nearby in both Clayton and Clarkesville, as well as great shops with local art, treasures, and furniture. Tucked into the forested mountains surrounding the spectacular Tallulah Gorge is our quaint rustic log cabin waiting for your arrival for a relaxing and fun getaway. Our four bedroom (two queen beds and two full beds), two full bath cabin has areas to gather everyone and areas for your own space including a large great room with a charming stone fireplace and vaulted ceiling tastefully decorated with comfort in mind, wireless internet, flat screen TV, DVD, a wide covered deck with rocking chairs and a porch swing and an outdoor fire pit for evening marshmallows, singing and storytelling. This Non-Smoking home will sleep six to eight in comfort. Our home comes ready for your enjoyment. We have games and books for indoor quiet time. All linens, dish soaps, tissues, paper towels, napkins, basic spices, PAM and cooking oils are available to make your getaway much easier. Just come looking for a wonderful time of memory making and fun. You will be 2 miles from the Tallulah Gorge State Park and Terrora Campground (just off of US Hwy 441), also within 2-6 miles include hiking and biking trails at Tallulah Gorge including the North and South Rim Trails connected by a lovely suspension bridge and a beautiful descending deck trail into the gorge to Sliding Rock and Hurricane Falls, also close by are the Stoneplace Trail, the Terrora Trail, the Tallulah Falls Shortline Trail, the Panther Creek Falls Trail. In addition to gorge and waterfall viewing, there is rock climbing and whitewater kayaking. The Jane Hurt Yarn Interpretive Center is also featured as well as the Terrora Day Use Area with swimming/beach, playground, tennis courts, and picnic pavillion. Surrounding lakes including Tallulah, Tugalo and Yonah are convenient with access to boating and fishing. Hunters will enjoy being on the edge of National Forest. In the town of Tallulah Falls is a General Store with unusual gifts, ice cream and local information, a Post Office, the Main Street Grill & Barbeque Restaurant, the historic train depot and don't forget the scenic loop along the gorge with overlook. Just a few miles up the road and onto historic hwy 441 is a beautiful winding drive through Lakemont and Tiger, a lovely alternative route to Clayton. Within a 30-50 mile radius are to the north, Clayton, Ga. for shopping, restaurants, etc., Woodall Shoals on the Chatooga River where you can go whitewater rafting, Black Rock Mountain, the Foxfire Museum and Heritage Center, the Bartram Trail, the Appalachian Trail head, and to the south is Clarksville, Ga. Our cozy cabin is perfect for family reunions, Spring Time in the Mountains, Summer Fun, Fall Leaf Season or that special occasion. Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Years are also very special. Black Rock Mountain State Park is only 10 miles north, and a wealth of local wineries are a short and scenic drive away.
